Oral sedation
Oral sedatives—pills or capsules you take before treatment—typically provide a more mild to moderate sedative effect, and help patients stay calm and relaxed. Your dentist can prescribe the appropriate type and dose for you.
Nitrous oxide
Nitrous oxide is a gas that you inhale, and it’s been safely and widely used in dentistry for a long time. Its effect is mild, but immediate. Your dentist may recommend both nitrous oxide and oral sedation if your anxiety is severe.
